Bible Summary A Brief History

The Bible tells us the process of how the World and Universe were created by Jehovah. This includes the sun, moon, stars, clouds, plants, animals, insects, and humans. It also gives the history of the Jewish people. We learn about heaven, hell, and sin. The most important part of all in the history of the Bible is learning about the Messiah Jesus Christ’s ministry, death, and resurrection. The future of the world is also shown, too.

The Bible starts with the Old Testament that contains 39 books from the Old Testament and also contains the 27 books of Jesus Christ’s birth, ministry, trial, death, and resurrection. Afterwards it details the growth of the Christian Church and spread of Christianity. Included at the end of the New Testament is the book of Revelation and the return of Jesus Christ to the Earth. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew and some Aramaic.

The New Testament was written in Koine Greek. The whole Bible was written in a span of time over 1500 years by a multitude of different people who lived in various places at different times. Yet there is a remarkable connection and consistency throughout all the books of the Bible.

In the Old Testament we read how man was created first, then woman. Jehovah created humans to be with Him at some future time when they obey and have faith in Him. Jehovah has an immense amount of love for His created humans and had already planned what He would do when needed.

He knew that Adam and Eve would bring sin into the world. He also knew that humankind would grow in population and spread around the world. He wanted a special, select group of humans to tell the other people around the world about Him. He chose the people we now know as Jews. Their growth is found in the Old Testament.

Jehovah told many men what to write down in the Bible. It is the true story of humankind. Through it we can see how we got to the current situation of society today. We can also learn about the future of the world and how to get to heaven.

Adam and Eve. after their sin in the garden of Eden, had many children, but only three are named in the Bible. The Bible does not tell us every single detail of every single event, just what we need to know to learn about Jehovah.

We know from what the Bible says that the population over the decades and centuries grew, and humankind was not following Jehovah. He only asked obedience and faith, but humans wanted to do things their way. It reached a point where sin was so bad that humans were killing each other off and sin was rampant. They were ignoring Jehovah and doing what they wanted. Jehovah saw it was necessary to rid the world of all because of the immense sin. Amongst all the people He found one righteous man and preserved the man, Noah, and his family.

Noah knew how to build the ark for Jehovah who told Noah what to do. Over the course of about 120 years, Noah and his three sons built the ark and gathered supplies for themselves and their wives. Jehovah sent the animals when the time came. Noah preached about Jehovah, but all the people ignored him. When the rains and waters from below came and flooded the land, the ark floated and saved the eight people and animals inside the ark.

After the flood, Noah and his family were told to spread out and repopulate the entire world. Over the course of time, the descendants did not want to do what Jehovah said to do. They all decided to build a tower to reach heaven, and all gathered to do it at Babel. Up until this time all the people spoke the same language. Jehovah caused their languages to become changed in many ways. The people gathered together with the ones that spoke the same and traveled to various parts of the world taking with them their own thoughts and stories about what they had heard about before the flood and since then. As they traveled to other parts of the world, they took with them their own versions and retold the stories in many different ways. They chose who they wanted to worship and wrote their own stories. Many do not tell the true story of the one and only god Jehovah because they had turned away from Him.

After the flood in the Old Testament, it can be read how Jehovah guided His people, the Hebrews (later called the Jews) to live for Him. They were to be the future ones to lead all the other people in the world to the one and only God, Jehovah. The Hebrews were ones who often did not do what Jehovah wanted them to do. Jehovah sent prophets, judges, kings, and others to guide them. They were even instructed about the coming of their Messiah. The Hebrews would not stay on track following Jehovah, despite repeated warnings and punishments. Yet there were always some faithful Hebrews who followed Jehovah.

After 400 years of silence from Jehovah His Son came to earth, according to all the prophecy in the Old Testament. This is all found in the part of the Bible called the New Testament.

The New Testament starts off with the four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Matthew, Mark, and Luke are similar in their stories, but each was written for a specific purpose. Matthew used several Old Testament references to point out to the Hebrews that Jesus Christ was the Messiah. Mark was written with truth from Peter and was written to the Romans. Luke was a Greek and wrote to the Greeks and his friend Theophilus. John wrote to everyone for all to understand the divinity of the Messiah Jesus Christ.

The New Testament tells the true story of Jesus Christ the Son of Jehovah from His human birth to His life ministry that ended with trials, crucifixion on the cross, burial, and resurrection. Little is said about his childhood in the New Testament, with most of it covering His ministry. He did many miracles and taught the words of Jehovah.

Acts was written to show the start of the Christian Church. Acts also introduces Paul the Apostle and how he was converted and started his missionary work. Paul was the first missionary who traveled on three journeys teaching about Jesus Christ.

Paul wrote several letters to various churches that are recorded in the New Testament. There are many teachings that enable one to learn how to live the Christian life, about eternity, and heaven.

The last book in the Bible, Revelation, talks about prophecy, the end times, and the coming again of the Lord Jesus Christ and how He will rule the world. All the writers in the New Testament, along with others over the years, suffered persecution because of their beliefs in Jesus Christ. They had many opportunities to change their stories or renounce their faith, yet all continued to proclaim the truth of the Bible even when it resulted in their deaths.
